172nd Airlift Wing Aids In Inauguration

On Wednesday, January 18 about 150 members of Mississippi's Army and Air National Guard flew from Flowood to Washington D.C. to provide support during the presidential inauguration.

The contingent of Mississippi soldiers and airmen were on a mission to help with traffic control, crowd management, communications, public affairs and chaplain support operations. Officials estimated that upwards of one million people were present in Washington, D.C., as President Donald Trump took the oath of office.


From across the nation, more than 7,500 National Guard soldiers and airmen were transported to D.C. in support of local and federal resources for the historic event.


The Mississippi contingent was comprised of soldiers and airmen from:

• Canton's 112th

  Military Police Battalion

• Brandon's 113th

  Military Police Company

• Clinton's 114th

  Military Police Company

• Flowood's 172nd Airlift Wing

• Meridian's 186th Air Refueling Wing.
