The Grand Lighting and Chili Cook-Off - December

Where: Winner's Circle Park

In the first days of December, the City begins the Christmas Season, and you’re invited!

Sponsored by the City of Flowood Parks and Recreation Department, the annual celebration is highlighted every year with over 100,000 lights, live entertainment, good food and great Flowood-style community fellowship.

The Annual Chili Cookoff is held by the Chamber of Flowood, where Chamber Members offer up teams to compete with their award-winning recipes.  The teams start cooking around mid-day, and folks that attend during the Grand Lighting can buy tickets to try the competitors’ work and vote for the winner.  It's always a fun, delicious (and warm) competition.

Mayor Gary Rhoads, our City Aldermen, and the Parks and Recreation staff will launch the celebration with a countdown for the GRAND LIGHTING.  The Flowood Fire and Police Departments always attend with static displays, prizes and goodies for the kids, and firetrucks and police cars on display for all to enjoy.

SANTA CLAUS WILL ATTEND the Grand Lighting, and he'll be visiting with the kids to hear their Christmas wishes and take pictures with the families.  Santa and the Christmas Train will start their annual run that night, and will continue running for “Christmas In The Park” on selected nights throughout the Christmas Season.  The Grand Lighting and all the associated events are open to the public, and are "Free Of Charge".
